George Francomb has enjoyed more cup success than most of his AFC Wimbledon team-mates - but he is hungry to write another chapter as Dons start the road to Wembley on Saturday.

The Wombles' winger was just 20 when he won a loser's medal north of the border with Hibernian back in Olympic year.

That day was soured by a thumping at the hands of Edinburgh rivals Hearts, but it whetted the youngster's appetite for more adventures in knock-out football.

Last year's third round tie with Liverpool, provided another taste of FA Cup romance with Adebayo Akinfenwa's goal not enough to counteract a Steven Gerrard brace.

While the 24-year-old is realistic enough to admit Wembley is beyond the Dons, he would relish another chance for a giant-killing in the famous old trophy.

He said: "The final against Hearts was a bit of a nightmare to be honest. I came on as a sub, but we ended up playing with 10-men and got beat 5-1.

"Nevertheless I was 19 so it was a good experience for me to get that far and play at a ground like Hampden Park.

"Not that we (Wimbledon) are going to get to Wembley, but we would like to get to the third round at least and draw a big team again."

Standing in the way of that ambition in Saturday's first round will be Conference National leaders Forest Green.

It means Francomb and Co will be cast in the unfamiliar role of favourites as opposed to their preferred tag of underdogs.

However, the former Canary will be able to draw on the experience of the cup run with the men of Easter Road as he bids to ensure safe passage.

"We had to go to First Division Ayr United in the quarter final that year, but did a professional job and got through.

"We are gaining a bit of momentum now, so we must take that confidence into Saturday's tie.

"But we can't take Forest Green for granted as we know they will also be full of confidence and looking to come to us to make a statement.
