QPR manager Ian Holloway has hinted that Steven Caulker could soon play an important part in his first team plans following the recent spate of injuries to his defence.

As well as the injuries to Grant Hall and Joel Lynch, Holloway confirmed that James Perch was set for a spell on the sidelines following an injury picked up against Hull City.

Speaking after the defeat to Brentford, Holloway said: "Perchy dislocated his knee cap on Saturday and it popped back in - but he’s now out for a long period of time.

"We're all really devastated for him but he's a strong character and we're all right behind him."

The news of the injury is a blow to the already thin QPR defence, but Holloway said that the return of the former England international could provide a welcome boost.

He said: "Is the squad as strong as I want it, probably not.

"Caulker’s coming back and we’re going to need that after the injuries that we picked up on the weekend."
