Lewis Macleod is in the Brentford travelling party for Friday's trip to Brighton and could make his debut, nearly 13 months after joining the club.

The Scottish midfielder has been struggling with a hamstring injury over the past year and was an unused substitute against Middlesbrough in the play-offs.

And Brentford head coach Dean Smith confirmed that Macleod will be in the squad for the trip to the Amex Stadium.

“Lewis Macleod is back in full training and is in the squad for tomorrow,” Smith said.

“I don't think he's been affected by it. He was in the squad for the last two games but hasn't made the bench. He's looking better and better in training.

“He's a good lad. He's a really good guy, down to earth, gets involved with the players and works hard every day.

“He comes in off the left and has a good nose for goal but he's got an eye for openings as well.”

There has been more good news for Brentford as Scott Hogan, who has been out since August 2014 after suffering two anterior cruciate ligament injuries, has returned to contact training.

Missing: Scott Hogan

Smith added: “He's in full contact training. It's too early to say when he's going to be ready. We're hoping to get him into some development games but that will be an ongoing conversation with the medical team.

“Some of the players here haven't seen him play. I saw him play for Rochdale and what a good player he is if he's not lost anything from what he was like before.

“I don't think he has lost anything, physically or mentally, from what I've seen in training. He's got stuck in straight away. He's really enjoying it.

“We'll have to see how the development squad games go before he's considered for the first team. I think that will be before the end of this month.”

Alan McCormack will miss the trip to the south coast after a calf injury.

Smith explained: “Aside from Alan McCormack. is fighting back from his calf injury which will be about two weeks, we've got a fully fit squad.”
