Former QPR man Joey Barton has been released by Burnley following his 18-month ban from football.

Barton, who joined the Clarets for a second spell in January, made 14 Premier League appearances last season before his suspension for betting offences was confirmed in April.

Speaking to Burnley's official website, Sean Dyche said: "Joey leaves us for the obvious reasons after he has again been a big part of what we have achieved this season.

“Both players (Barton and Michael Kightly, who was also released) have had a big effect on what we have done during their time at Turf Moor and we wish them well, as we do all those leaving this summer.”

Barton made 93 appearances during his spell at QPR, before leaving to join Burnley in 2015.
