Reading have sacked boss Steve Clarke - just three weeks after he turned down the chance to manage Fulham.
The Scot has left the Madejski Stadium following the Royals' 1-0 defeat at home to QPR on Thursday night.
Clarke held talks with Fulham in mid-November about replacing Kit Symons, a job that still remains available.
The Whites could now appoint Clarke without the need to pay heavy compensation to an employer but reports this lunchtime suggest they are now looking elsewhere.
Meanwhile, rumours are circulating that former Blackburn manager Gary Bowyer is interested in being the new man in charge at the Madejski Stadium.
Unemployed Bowyer has been out of a job since November 10 when he was removed as manager of Blackburn.
