Lee Carsley has been appointed Brentford's new development squad boss.

The former Everton, Derby, Blackburn and Coventry midfielder replaces Jon De Souza, who will take charge of the club's U18s instead.

Carsley worked alongside Brentford first-team coach David Weir during the Scotsman's time at the helm of Sheffield United last season.

Bees academy director Ose Aibangee said: “I am delighted to have secured someone with Lee’s background and expertise.

“His playing career was played exclusively in the top two divisions and mostly in the Premier League.

“He also brings coaching expertise at academy and first team level. I am sure he will be a valuable asset for the academy and the Club as a whole.”
