Josh McEachran knows he is under pressure at Brentford with his past as Chelsea's one for the future always hanging over him.

The midfielder had that tag thrust upon him when he appeared in Premier League and Champions League games for the Blues.

He completed a move to Brentford last summer and his first season at Griffin Park did not go according to plan, breaking the same bone in his foot twice.

And, although McEachran believes the pressure that comes with being a Chelsea loan player has gone that history is still there.

He said: “I think the pressure has been taken away from me. I was going on loan and I was still a Chelsea player.

“Now I'm a Brentford player but there's still pressure on me as I was playing in the Premier League and Champions League but it's a good pressure to have.

McEachran has been outshone by the likes of Ryan Woods, Alan McCormack and Nico Yennaris at times and he knows he must perform if he is to overhaul the former Arsenal youngster.

He added: “There is a lot of competition in the midfield with Nico as well. You always need competition as it keeps you on your toes.

“In football, there is always pressure no matter where it is. It's only healthy and it's good for you. If there was no pressure on me, it wouldn't keep me on my toes.”

McEachran first broke his foot in July and was ruled out until December but then suffered the same injury again in March.

And he admitted it was a hard road back and is just targeting staying fit, while trying to help the Bees win promotion.

He explained: “I had surgery and then I was on my sofa for two weeks. I was doing core work and upper body stuff.

“When I got the boot off that's when the work started. I was in the gym, outside. The two weeks on the sofa was boring. I went through quite a few box-sets. It's mentally tough being injured.

“I just want to stay fit and go from there. I want to help take Brentford to the Premier League and I believe we have the squad and the manager to get there.”
