Former Brentford goalkeeper Richard Lee believes that Daniel Bentley has been a superb replacement for the departed David Button.

The Southend man moved to Griffin Park after his contract at Roots Hall expired and has made a big impression in his first few games at the club.

Bentley has already saved points for his side and, were it not for his displays, the Bees would be much lower in the table.

Lee said: “I've seen him on highlights and speaking to people it sounds like he's done really well. He had big shoes to fill in replacing David Button and I know how well Jack Bonham did in pre-season.

“Knowing him as I do, I know he's ready as well. Dan is holding Jack off as well. It's so far so good. I've been impressed with their start to the season.”

Lee believes that the 23-year-old has a big future ahead of him and is impressed by his 'play as much as possible' attitude.

He added: “I saw a couple of games on TV and it seems he has the personality required to play at that level.

“Shot-stopping is not in question at all. It looks like he has a big future ahead of him. He wants to play as much as he can.

“For goalkeepers now, to want to go somewhere to play week in week out is really impressive. I'm thrilled for Brentford.

“There's always a risk when you lose David Button but they have two excellent goalkeepers and that's not going to be a concern this season.”

Lee will be at Griffin Park for Tuesday night's game with Reading as an analyst for Bees Player.
