CB Hounslow Sports Club can start work on a new state-of-the-art multi-sport community facility after receiving a £100,000 grant from the Mayor of London’s Sports Facilities Fund.

The award marks the final piece of the jigsaw for the £1.4million project that will bring five disused pitches, including a floodlit pitch for partner club CB Hounslow United FC, back to use.

A new pavilion comprising changing rooms, a physiotherapy room, a function suite and full catering facilities will also be built.

The facility will also include areas for archery and a perimeter track for cycling and running groups, giving the club the opportunity to increase its membership for these sports by over 150 people.

These new facilities will provide a sports hub to help encourage participation and active lifestyles, with a specific focus on football.

The club will work closely with Beavers Community Primary School to increase the number of teams at the club from 30 to 37, with a particular emphasis on new women’s and girls’ teams as well as a side for those with disabilities.

Plans: Coach Mark Evans, development manager Nigel Moore and chairman Frank James survey the site

For CB chairman Frank James, the driving force behind the plan this is a big moment.

He said: “This is a massive boost for the club, will improve grassroots sport and help us develop as a community sports club for all ages and abilities.”

Mayor of London Boris Johnson added: “I am delighted CB Hounslow Sports Club will now be able to start work on this exciting project.

“We want to help clubs improve their facilities, so even more Londoners get the chance to get active and participate in sport.”

The project had already secured funding worth more than £700,000 from Football Foundation grants, plus nearly £450,000 from Sport England, The London Marathon Trust, MoD Community Covenant and Hounslow Council, together with more than £100,000 raised within the club.
