Slavisa Jokanovic is excited at the chance to take over at Fulham after agreeing an 18-month deal with the club.

The Whites turned to the Serbian, who guided Watford to the Premier League last season before taking Maccabi Tel Aviv into the Champions League group stages, after parting company with Kit Symons at the start of November.

And the former Chelsea midfielder can't wait to get started at a club with the history of Fulham after watching on during their 4-1 win over Rotherham on Tuesday night.

He said: “I am very excited. I believe it's a great chance for me to work at a historic club like Fulham.

“I believe I can have an exciting time in front of me. My job is very clear and people expect me to improve the team and push the team forward to fight for more important targets.

“I am ready. I believe in myself, I believe in this club and these people. Let's do it and push hard.”

Below are the other key points from Jokanovic's first press conference as Fulham's head coach.

When did Fulham first get in touch?

Head Coach Slavisa Jokanovic

“Fulham first spoke with Maccabi and asked for permission to talk with me. It's not been a short period.

“We are talking about a few weeks. I believe I was the first choice for the club. I needed to say thank you to the club and the people who thought of me and pushed from the beginning to bring me here.

“It's been a long process. Right now, I am here ready for the challenge and ready to help Fulham.”

Can Fulham win promotion this season?

“You want to ask me about targets? It's simple. It's the next game – Sheffield Wednesday and after some days, weeks and months we're going to be clear about our targets.

“I was working in a different place two days before. I am ready about what is in front of us. I understand how Fulham started the season in the summer, like 70 per cent of the teams, to be promoted.

“Right now, our target is not to forget this season and think about next season. We need to take short steps. First, Sheffield Wednesday then the FA Cup then the next game.”

What will Fulham do in the transfer window?

Loan target: James Husband

“Our obligation is to improve ourselves and make some steps in these transfer window. I've been here 20 hours.

“I'm talking with people around me. What's going to happen in January is we're going to try and find some loan players as we can't sign any new players due to the Financial Fair Play sanction. It's impossible for us.

“We need to find a solution. I am here to find a solution on the field. People here will try and find a solution in the office.

“Both sides will collaborate. I will try and make moves and we'll bring in people who can help us.”

“It's successful year. I'm enjoying it so much. I made a lot of money for my ex clubs and I want to do something similar here.

“In football, coaches are always asking for time. It's great that in two days we're going to start being on the bench.

“I don't have much time. I expect I'm going to have to be strong with the team to win the points and the games.

“That's it. The year is over, next year is in front of me. I expect I can be more successful than I have been in the last year.”

Stuart Gray will stay but what is his role?

Staying put: Fulham senior coach Stuart Gray

“Stuart is a great man and a great manager too. We are talking yesterday a lot. I needed help from him and around me.

“We start our collaboration and expect in the future we're going to collaborate better.

“Our interests are Fulham and to improve this project that is in our hands. I believe we can work together and do a quality job.”
