Yannick Bolasie has lent his support to a Hillingdon Borough after the side fell on hard times.

The Everton winger, who is currently on the sidelines with a long-term knee injury, took time out of his rehab to check up on the plight of his former club.

Spartan South Midlands League outfit Hillingdon's future appeared to be in doubt as they threatened to withdraw from the division due to a lack of support.

However, the Middlesex-based side have performed a dramatic U-turn, with Premier League star Bolasie offering his help.

Chairwoman Dee Dhand, who revealed they once paid him in burgers, told Mirror Sport: "When Bolasie heard the news he got in contact to offer us his moral support.

"He's always thinking of us and has a lot of respect for the club. He wanted to find out what was happening and how he could help.

"But it's not a financial issue. We own our ground and generate funds from hiring our facilities.

"We just feel there's a lack of support for the club and Non-League football in general."

Hillingdon helped Bolasie on the road to stardom when he joined the club as a teenager.

He has climbed the ladder via Plymouth, Barnet, Bristol City and Crystal Palace before his £24million move to Goodison Park in the summer.

However, the DR Congo international played for Borough for free, although he received a goal bonus of a free burger from the club's kitchen.

Dhand recalled: "I wanted to sign him for £20-a-week, but others didn't agree.

"I ended up giving him a burger for every goal. He once scored eight, so he shared them with his teammates."
