Esteban Granero has told team-mates he wants to play for QPR in the Premier League next season.

The Spanish midfielder featured 27 times for Rangers following his big-money move from Real Madrid in 2012, but couldn’t stop the Rs getting relegated from the top-flight.

Granero was shipped out on loan to Real Sociedad at the beginning of the season as Harry Redknapp looked to rebuild his squad for a Championship promotion push.

However, the 26-year-old, who is back to fitness following a serious knee injury, is due to return to Loftus Road for pre-season training.

“It wasn’t necessarily the case that players saying they wanted to leave to go out on loan,” said defender Nedum Onuoha. “It might have worked well for the club too.

“I’m looking forward to Esteban Granero coming back in because I think he’s a quality player.

“He’s outstanding and, having spoken to him, he really wants to come back.

"He contacted me before the play-off final and said ‘please do it’ because he wants to be playing in the Premier League with QPR.”
