Brentford manager Mark Warburton hit out at his side's below-par display after they needed penalties to get past Dagenham in the Capital One Cup on Tuesday night.

The Bees led FIVE times through Stuart Dallas, Nick Proschwitz, Andre Gray and Montell Moore, only for the League Two Daggers to come roaring back.

Ashley Hemmings looked like he had scored a dramatic 113th-minute winner, only for Harlee Dean to haul the visitors level as it finished 6-6 after extra-time.

Hero: Richard Lee saved twice in the penalty shoot-out

Richard Lee produced two stops in the shoot-out as Brentford eventually triumphed 4-2 on spot-kicks, but Warburton was far from happy with how the Bees surrendered control of the game at Victoria Road.

He said: "The players described that as embarrassing, disappointing and frustrating. From a position of total dominance in the first half and we could have scored more to suddenly giving goals away.

"There was a lot of poor defending and I have never seen a game like that before and I don't want to see another one like it again.

"We have to be better than that and that is no disrespect to Dagenham, they showed fantastic character and must have fancied their chances at 6-5 up.

"Richard Lee proved what a good goalkeeper he is at penalties, he relishes that one-on-one situation and he did a great job for us."

He added: "We want to attack and be fluid in our forward movement, but we can't be naive. Attacking football doesn't mean you leave yourself wide open at the back. We were split and too far apart at times."
