BARNET player-manager Edgar Davids is convinced his side can get better despite watching the Bees romp to a 3-0 victory in their first competitive match at the Hive.

After a goalless opening period, Luke Gambin notched Barnet’s first league goal of the season before Jake Hyde’s double clinched all three points for the Bees in their opening Skrill Premier fixture.

Davids was happy with the result but insisted there is plenty of scope for improvement from his side.

“Our first priority today was to have a positive result and I think three points is very positive and now we have to look to Tuesday,” he said.

“It went better than expected, three points, 3-0 - that’s a good result but in the end I’m not that happy with some parts of the game.

“A couple of things need changing,” he added. “We need to improve a lot.”

“The interaction between certain lines definitely needs to be improved and we have to work on that on Monday.

The Dutch legend was not part of the matchday squad for the game against Chester and suggested that may continue if his side keep playing well.

“I think that was the best squad to pick today,” he said. “I think it’s important the best players on a matchday.”

Davids will be hoping for more of the same for Barnet when they travel to Tamworth for their first away game in the Skrill Premier on Tuesday.
