Iain Dowie has been sacked by Queen's Park Rangers after only 15 games in the hot seat.

Dowie's last game in charge was the 0-0 draw with Swansea City in which the Welsh side played more than an hour with an outfield player in goal.

Gareth Ainsworth has been named as caretaker managar and will handle first-team affairs for the away trip to Reading on Saturday.

A club statement said: "The board of Queens Park Rangers has terminated the contract of manager Iain Dowie with immediate effect."

"Player-coach Gareth Ainsworth has been appointed caretaker manager on a temporary basis and will take charge of first-team affairs until further notice."
