AFC Wimbledon are in danger of being dragged into a relegation dogfight according to Harry Pell.

The Dons travel to Wycombe tomorrow looking to arrest a run of seven games without a win stretching back to mid-November that has seen them slip nearer to the drop zone than the play-off battle.

Neal Ardley’s men have found the net just three times in those seven games with more missed chances condemning them to defeat at Dagenham & Redbridge on New Year’s Day.

Midfielder Pell, who returned from injury against the Daggers, knows they need to be more clinical on their visit to the Chairboys if they are to stop a worrying slide down the standings.

He said:  “At the end of the day if we don’t buck our ideas up, we are going to be in a bit of trouble.

“We dominated quite a lot of the play against Dagenham, but in this league if you don’t put your chances away you are going to get hurt.

“We are still confident in ourselves, so we will go on to Saturday still in a positive mental frame of mind and hopefully get three points which we need.”

The 22-year-old saluted the support of the 619 Dons fans, who provided great vocal backing throughout the 90-rain-soaked minutes at Victoria Road, insisting they deserved better.

He added: “We let ourselves down and to be fair we owe our supporters a performance at Wycombe because we brought quite a few to Dagenham and let them down as well.

“It is all about character now. We are good enough, but the Dagenham performance was nowhere near the standard we expect.”
