AFC Wimbledon's longest-serving player midfielder Sammy Moore says the mood at the club is best he's experienced.

The Dons have gone three games unbeaten after a draw against Morecambe and victories against both Newport County and Accrington Stanley at home.

Adebayo Akinfenwa scored a brace against Newport on Saturday in their 2-0 win to keep the Dons within reach of the play-offs as we approach the key point of the season.

Moore has seen major highs at the club having helped the Dons break into the Football League but reckons the current crop are the best bunch of lads he's played with since joining from Dover in the summer of 2010.

Moore said: “The team morale is the best I’ve seen it since joining the club and you have to take every game as it comes and hopefully keep moving up the table.

“But I honestly thought we were unplayable [against Newport] as well as Bayo, shown from the two goals he scored, and all over the pitch we controlled the match and we didn’t look like conceding.”

Wimbledon have been busy in the transfer window, bringing a number of new faces and letting familiar ones go in the opposite direction, including Moore’s good friend Harry Pell.

He said: “Pell was a good friend but that happens in football. I’ve seen many friends come and go over the years and it is just part and parcel of the game.

“We’re looking strong and looking tight as a unit. We’re right in the mix of the play-offs ad you never know after a good run there is a good chance of featuring in the play-offs at the end of the season.”

Moore was out injured with a suspected broken toe, but now back fit the Englishman is aiming to push for a starting place against leaders Burton Albion tonight.

He added: “I feel good and I’m looking forward to playing again.

“I was only out for a couple of days thinking I might have broken my toe but I’m back involved and feel 100 per cent fit.

“But the team is playing well at the moment so it is difficult to push on and get into the first team, but I’ll fight for a place and wait for my chance to impress the gaffer.”
