ALAN Devonshire will become the new manager at Braintree Town after parting company with Hampton & Richmond Borough.

Chairman Steve McPherson opened the club’s annual presentation night on Saturday by informing those present of Devonshire’s decision.

And although Devonshire had a year left on his contract, the club’s board agreed to cancel his contract to allow him to move to the Blue Square Bet South champions.

Chairman McPherson said: “It is hugely disappointing to lose Alan, but we understand his reasons and wish him all the best at Braintree. I’m sure that he will do very well and surprise of few of the established clubs next year.

“I’m sad to see him go as he is a great guy and a personal friend, he has achieved great things for this club and helped raise our profile and made us what we are today.”
