Kelle Roos has declared that AFC Wimbledon will always have a place in his heart and, if Derby decide he's better off spending next season on loan, will consider a return to Kingsmeadow.

The Dutchman became a fans' favourite in west London during his four month stint with the club.

And he kept a clean sheet in the play-off final on Monday to help the Dons reach the third tier just 14 years after their formation.

He said: “Wimbledon will always have a place in my heart. I've been here fo four months but it's been an incredible journey.

“I felt I was part of something special and we, as a team, realised we had something special on our hands and we wanted to give the club and the fans something they deserve.”

He added: “When I came in, I got up to date (on the club's history) really quickly and I think the staff and players play a massive part of that. From the first day, they've been incredible for me.”

Roos hopes the management are as happy with his performances as the fans have been, chanting Roooos every time he touches the ball, and if a return was deemed sensible by the Rams, he'd jump at the chance.

He explained: “I've had a great time. I hope the management is happy with what I've brought to the club.

“I've got a two year contract at Derby. If I can do it again and win the League One, I'll do it. What happens is out of my control.”

Whether Roos returns to the Dons or not, he will go down in folklore as part of the squad who saw the club into League One.

He said: “It was the best day of my career by far. It's only a little footballing life and I'm very happy to be able to say I won a Wembley final.

“When Lyle Taylor scored, I was thinking the game was won as we weren't going to concede as the defenders and I know we're not going to concede. It's something everyone feels in their bodies. We knew nothing would happen.

“Lyle been incredible for us and it's a reward for us. It's a big reward that he gets the goal at Wembley as he has scored so many. Adebayo Akinfenwa brings joy to the place. He's a friendly giant.”
