Wealdstone will need to up their game in tonight’s derby clash with Harrow if they are to close the gap on league leaders Maidstone United.

A late Jonny Wright strike salvaged a draw for the title hopefuls against Hendon on Saturday and afterwards boss Gordon Bartlett admitted his side had played their get out of jail card.

They face an improving Borough side at Grosvenor Vale this evening, with Dave Anderson’s Reds heading into this one on the back of two straight victories.

Boro shocked table-toppers Maidstone with a 4-1 thumping two weeks ago and followed that with a battling 3-2 triumph over Hampton and Richmond on Saturday.

It leaves the Reds perfectly poised to spring another upset at the Vale as Wealdstone begin to tick-off their games in hand on their rivals for the crown.

‘We go into it with not a care in the world at the minute, so that will be interesting,” Anderson said. ‘We will absolutely have to be at our best, or be very lucky, because if we’re not one of those two things we won’t get anything.

“‘It’s a tough ask to beat Wealdstone at Wealdstone no matter what they’ve got. They’re at the top end of the table.

“They’ve got a big chance of winning the division and I think that no matter when you go there it’s a difficult place to win.

“The fact that they’ve got a tight record. They also score lots of goals, they’re an entertaining side.

“I’ve got the greatest respect for them. It doesn’t make me scared. I’m not scared of them. I can’t wait for the game and the players are coming back off two wins, that’s nice.

“I’ve been where they are, that top end of the table. Every game’s really really important for you.”

The derby is one of two Ryman Premier League fixtures tonight, with Hendon hosting Bognor Regis at Harrow’s Earlsmead ground.
