MATTHEW Connolly will hold talks with QPR boss Mark Hughes in the summer to see if he has a future at Loftus Road.

The central defender has failed to feature since the Welshman took over in W12 in January, and was shipped out on loan to Reading for the rest of the season.

Connolly's campaign has been blighted by injury, restricting him to just five appearances for the Championship promotion chasers.

And the 24-year-old, who still has another 12 months on his deal at QPR, plans to speak to Sparky next month to see where he stands.

He told the Chronicle : “It's been a season to forget because I've been injured quite a bit.

“I played a few games for QPR and then for Reading but I need to build myself up over the summer and kick on next year.

“I was jumping at the chance when QPR got to the Premier League but it didn't go according to plan.

“I've still got a year left at QPR and I don't know what's going to happen. I've got to speak to Mark Hughes at the end of the season.

“I'll have a chat with the Reading manager [Brian McDermott] in the next few weeks as well and see what his plans are. He's a great manager and I've enjoyed working under him.

“All I want to do is play as many games as possible and improve. Wherever I am I just want to be the best I can.”

Connolly made his first appearance for six weeks in this afternoon's reserve game with Brentford after being sidelined with an ankle problem.

And he hopes he can play a part in Reading's run-in as they close in on a return to the Premier League.

He added: “I needed some game time. I had always planned to play only an hour and feel it went well. Hopefully I can get back playing as soon as I can.”
