Dean Smith has disregarded Ian Holloway's comments after Brentford thrashed QPR in the Carabao Cup as pure emotion.

And after the loss in the Carabao Cup, the Rs boss, in an attempt to play down the defeat having made 10 changes, said he'd love to face the Bees, who had made significant changes themselves, with his proper team.

Holloway said at the time: “I don’t want to lose to them, but I’d love to play them every week with my proper team and we’ll see.

“I can’t wait. It’s just spiced up the away game and the home game for me – just spiced it right up.”

However, Smith, never one to make fiery statements, played it down and won't be pinning it on the dressing room wall.

He said: “Not really. I think he was emotional after the game. We'd beaten them 4-1. We were excellent in the first half.

“It probably wasn't a 4-1 in the second half but if your rivals have beaten you 4-1 in your own back yard you say things you don't really mean.”

Smith doesn't expect the game will have any bearing to Monday's fixture: “I'm not sure the approaches will be too different. We changed and they changed.

“We've got a good record of them in the last three games and we want that to continue but they have beaten the top teams at their place so it's a top place.”

The Rs boss has made a habit of making disparaging comments about Brentford.

He tipped the Bees to go down in the 2016/17 season before denying it after the Hoops were beaten 3-1 at Griffin Park and Bees fans would love the chance to get one over him.

But, for Smith, just sees it as a chance to win three points and it is a case of business as usual on the training ground, although he knows what it means to the fans.

He added: “It's not over him. I get on well with him. The important thing is to go and get three points.

“It's a local game and has our supporters aware of what that means so it's about going and getting three points.

“It's business as usual and it has to be. For all the plaudits you get from your supporters, you get no more points.

“We want to get the three points. I've spoken about emotions and the players will need emotional control and I think we've shown we can handle that situation.”
