Dean Smith is adamant that he won't shirk any responsibility after Brentford's woeful 2-1 loss against Charlton .

The Bees find themselves on a run of poor form after only winning one game in their previous seven, with that win coming against Wolves in February.

And after the Bees latest poor showing, the Brentford boss is taking full responsibility for the results.

He said: "I've not bought a player in yet and we've lost a number of players but I'm here to take responsibility as well because I'm the manager who puts the team out there, so theres no way I'm going to shirk any responsibility, that's for sure.

"Speaking to the players there we have to be together in what we do.

Goal: Yoann Barbet's strike was not enough

"It's been tough, we know that the quality of the players we've lost would hurt any team and we've not managed to replace them as of yet either."

Smith gave the players a dressing down after the game, stating that he expects better of them than today's performance and the Bees boss insisted they must take responsibility for their own performances.

He added: "I said to the players that I expect better of you, you're Championship players, that's why you're here and you have to take some responsibility for that, as I will do as well.

"They're a real honest bunch of lads and I look at the game today and they gave everything - they always do - but some of them are still learning the game.

"Its a tough league to be learning the game in is the Championship - there's some big strong teams in there and you have to learn fast and unfortunately some of ours are still learning and finding it tough at times.

"Its a tough period at the moment that the lads and myself need to come through."
