Jake Bidwell and Lasse Vibe return to Brentford's squad to face Huddersfield after missing the 3-0 demolition of Fulham through injury.

The Bees have had a host of injury problems over the course of the season but that has not stopped them from being within a victory of securing a top 10 finish.

And they are in a position where players are coming back, rather than more dropping out.

“Lasse Vibe and Jake Bidwell are both back in training,” Smith said. “Saturday's game came too soon for Jake and there was nobody more pleased than Tom Field.”

Field was forced off with a calf problem and Smith could call on the 19-year-old, who impressed against the Whites last weekend.

The Bees boss added: “He is also fit. He's trained with us this week and he's done himself no harm at all.”

Alan McCormack, though, will miss the game and Smith revealed: “He's still feeling his calf slightly. Saturday is probably too soon for him.”

Long term injury concerns Andreas Bjelland (cruciate ligament), Lewis Macleod (knee), Josh McEachran (broken foot) and Alan Judge (broken leg) all miss the trip to Yorkshire and all of those players, including Maxime Colin, will have to report for training earlier.

Smith explained: “Maxime has been fit. I brought him off at MK Dons through performances and his performances since have been very good.

“He'll have a strengthening programme through the summer. We'll assess him when he comes back but we don't feel surgery is needed.”

He added: “We have to manage Maxime. We'll have a look at him early. Andreas Bjelland will be coming back early. Scott Hogan as well as we have to manage him and probably Philipp Hofmann as well.”

Macleod's knee injury has recovered but he will not be risked at the John Smith's Stadium on Saturday.

Smith explained: “He'll probably come in a week earlier than the rest of the players to assess him. There's too much risk in taking him to Huddersfield. We have to get him ready for pre-season.”

Brentford will play their strongest team, although Smith may look, if circumstances allow, to give some of the young players who have been on the bench some minutes.

He revealed: “I'm going to play the strongest team I can to finish as high as I can. Reece has been on the bench in recent weeks as has James Ferry.

“Jan Holldack has been close to the squad. Richard and I have had a close look at the young players and the qualities they bring.”
