Dean Smith took Yoann Barbet off against Wolves because the Frenchman was struggling with cramp in the closing stages.
Eyebrows were raised when the Brentford head coach made a switch at centre back with the game still at 0-0.
However, he explained that Barbet was battling cramp and heaped praise on Bjelland for keeping Wolves at bay in the closing stages.
Smith said: “Yoann Barbet went off with cramp and Andreas made a great save at the end.”
Overall, Smith was delighted with his sides performance and singled out Romaine Sawyers and Neal Maupay for praise.
He added: “I thought they all stood up to be counted. I thought Romaine Sawyers was very good. Neal worked his socks off but they worked hard for each other.”
Brentford had an inexperienced side last season but Smith believes his squad are fully aware of their abilities in the second tier.
He explained: “We were aware of that last season. We felt we were caught out with that. The players we have got are accustomed to the game.
“Harlee Dean, Yoann Barbet have done a lot of games. Dan Bentley, Ryan Woods have played a lot of games. The players are acclimatised to the Championship.”
