Dean Smith believes that Jake Bidwell will receive a respectful reception from many Brentford supporters, although he expects the QPR full back to be on the receiving end of some stick.

The former Bees captain traded TW8 for W12 last summer and the last player to do that, Martin Rowlands, never heard the end of it throughout his career.

Bidwell served the Bees well during his five years at the club, helping them from a mid-table League One side to a respectable Championship outfit and Smith believes that work should be acknowledged by the fans.

He said: “I think it will be a respectful reception as people could see what he did here.

“He came as a young lad on loan from Everton, became an ever present, became the captain and was consistent.

“The fact he left to a local rival will lead to some stick in some quarters but the respect will be there for what he gave to the club in a successful period.”
