Dan Bentley has been impressed by back-up goalkeeper Jack Bonham's displays on the Brentford training ground but is also determined to ensure that he doesn't lose his place.

The former Southend man made a crucial save from Britt Assombalonga in the dying seconds of the Bees' 1-0 win over Nottingham Forest to further win the fans over after a string of good performances in pre-season.

And he has as good a relationship as he can with his number two, given that both players will be fighting tooth and nail for a start on a Saturday afternoon.

“I get on well with Jack. He's a bit of a character around the goalkeeper training and we share a room on away trips,” Bentley said.

Keeper: Bonham in action

“I was told when I was a little lad in my Arsenal days that goalkeepers are the best of friends and also the worst of enemies.

“There is only one shirt and he'll push me as far as he can get the shirt. I need to keep hold of the shirt.

“If he was playing, he'd do the same that's how it works. No matter what, we'll support each other. I supported him at Exeter from minute one and he does the same for me. It's a healthy relationship.”
