Petr Cech last night insisted Chelsea’s Capital One Cup win over Tottenham was just as special as his first trophy triumph with the west London club.

The 32-year-old was a handed a rare start in goal ahead of Thibaut Courtois at Wembley and was rarely tested by Spurs in a comfortable 2-0 victory for the Blues.

Cech arrived at Stamford Bridge in the summer of 2004 and the League Cup was the first piece of silverware the shot-stopper lifted under manager Jose Mourinho .

Having repeated that moment ten years on yesterday, the Czech Republic international claimed he enjoyed his latest achievement as much as his maiden winners’ medal.

Cech said: “It’s as special as the first one. You always want to win the finals you never want to lose them. It’s been a while since we’ve won the Capital One Cup and we’re delighted with the fact that we beat a very good Tottenham side.”

The Capital One Cup win gave Mourinho his first title since returning to the Bridge and Cech, who worked with Special One throughout his previous spell as boss, thinks he has the same appetite for success.

Cech added: “He has the same motivation to win trophies and hopefully there will be other trophies for the club this season.

“It’s always nice to have the trophy in the middle of the season because it can give you a boost of motivation and confidence and you can others. Let’s use it as an advantage for the coming games.”

Meanwhile, Chelsea skipper John Terry believes Chelsea's "massive" Capital One Cup final win over Tottenham could be the start of something special for the Blues.
