Conor Washington believes QPR fans will have a chance to see the best of him under new boss Ian Holloway.

The Northern Ireland international got Holloway’s second spell in charge at Loftus Road off to a winning start by scoring the opener in a 2-1 victory over Norwich on Saturday.

His one from one record under the new man in charge is in stark contrast to the two in 31 appearances under previous boss Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink.

The difference? Holloway opted to play the 24-year-old up alongside German target-man Sebastian Polter in a front two, whereas in the Hasselbaink regime he was more often than not deployed as a lone front-man or shunted out wide in a midfield four.

Not surprisingly, Washington is relishing being back on familiar territory as part of a striking duo.

"It's been tough since I've been here,” he said. “So, it was nice to play in a two-up front, which is good for me.

“Seb (Polter) is really good to play off and I think the little and large combination works.

It's a wrap! Ian Holloway

“I've always played in that and it's what you get used to.

“It was nice to get on the score-sheet but the most important thing was getting off to a good start.”

The partnership should be given plenty of chances to flourish under a manager who, according to Washington has outlined a simple progressive philosophy in his first few days back at the helm – score enough goals to win the game.

"He (Holloway) has been brilliant, especially for the forward players,” he added. “He wants to score goals. He wants to score one more than the other team, which is exactly the sort of attitude you want to hear as a striker.

“He wants us to play to our strengths, which is really important to me.”
