SALOMON Kalou hopes his performance in tonight's win at Blackpool can earn him a place in the starting XI.

The Chelsea forward came off the bench to help the Blues to a 3-1 win at Bloomfield Road to keep alive their title hopes.

The Ivory Coast international earned them a 62nd-minute penalty then set-up Frank Lampard's second before Blackpool bagged a late consolation.

And the 25-year-old hopes his 35-minute cameo has given boss Carlo Ancelotti plenty of food for thought.

He said: "It's difficult because when you don't play for long and get in the game people expect you to make the difference.

"But sometimes it's difficult. I'm working hard in training so hopefully my time will come to be in the first XI."

Kalou went down under the challenge of defender Ian Evatt to hand Lampard the chance to double Chelsea's lead following John Terry's opener.

And he admits the penalty came at the right time.

"I felt he was going to tackle so I put my body between the defender and the ball," added the Ivorian.

"It was a great moment for us because it was a difficult game. They were pushing hard, so the penalty came at the right time."
