CHELSEA’S new domestic focus is on finishing third in the league - and they must beat Manchester City on Sunday to do that says Didier Drogba .

The Blues striker insists the best way of beating the team they have lost to on three successive occasions is to have fewer chances on goal but make each one count.

Drogba was profligate in front of goal against FC Copenhagen on Wednesday night as the Blues frittered away several scoring opportunities. "I hope that Sunday is going to be a different game, because we need to win it and think about the third place," he said.

"It would be fantastic to go back to third, knowing that we lost so many games, so many points in the last two months."

Asked if this new focus on third place means Chelsea have finally given up on retaining their Premiership title, he said: "To be honest, the chances are really really small.

"I think it is most important that we have to focus on the third place.

"The club has to be in the Champions League, and it is important for us to play in this competition every year.

"So let’s focus on Sunday and we will see what happens, maybe three or four games from the end of the season."

The Premier League is entitled to four Champions League places, but fourth place is not enough to qualify if an English team that finishes fifth or lower down wins the competition.

Drogba joked: "I don’t mind finishing fifth and then winning the Champions League, and then playing in it again the next season."

Focusing on Sunday, the Ivorian added: "I think when Manchester City won against us they deserved it. We weren’t the ones who deserved it.

"The last games were very difficult against them, but I hope that this one will go in our favour."
