CHELSEA are still chasing a striker to bolster their squad – with Wayne Rooney their number one target.

The Manchester United man, already the subject of a £27million bid, is said to be keen to leave Old Trafford, with Stamford Bridge his preferred destination.

Reports emerged this week of a likely increased offer for the 27-year-old, understood to be worth around £40m.

Chelsea flew to the USA on Tuesday ahead of their three-match participation in the Guinness International Champions Cup.

Fernando Torres , Demba Ba and Romelu Lukaku were included in the travelling party, but Jose Mourinho is still keen to add to his strikeforce.

Torres has not featured in pre-season until now due to Spain's involvement in the Confederations Cup.

Lukaku, who has found the net four times in three games, is likely to be loaned-out before August comes to an end if the Blues land Rooney.

Ba is yet to shine since his January move to Chelsea, and is increasingly seen as a squad option rather than a first choice forward.
