Ruben Loftus-Cheek insists that he is learning vital lessons from getting his chance in the big games for Chelsea.

The 20-year-old made his 10th Premier League appearance of the campaign on Saturday as the Blues were beaten 3-0 by Manchester City.

It was a tough afternoon for the emerging talent as he was tested to the limit by experienced professionals like City’s towering enforcer Yaya Toure.

Loftus-Cheek was given license to get forward by Guus Hiddink and made several positive runs into opposition territory.

However, it was ultimately a disappointing afternoon for the youngster as the Manchester giants used the counter attack to lethal effect to take the points.

Sergio Aguero finished with a hat-trick and former Chelsea winger Kevin De Bruyne enjoyed a memorable afternoon against his old club in west London.

Loftus-Cheek hopes to one day reach the level of established stars like De Bruyne, Toure and Aguero, and thinks playing against opponents of that ilk will only improve his game.

He said: “It’s always hard to lose at home.

“We came into the game with the aim to win and, like I say, it’s hard, but we have to pick our heads up and go again because we’ve got another game soon.

“It’s a tough mental challenge playing in any Premier League game, but especially against big teams like Man City.

“I’m always growing, particularly any time I’m outside my comfort zone, so I look forward to big games like this.

Aguero has great ability and we saw that. He’s got blistering pace and that’s where we got done, on the counter-attack.

“It was a good experience for me to play against players like that. I am looking forward to playing more.

“We will go back to the training ground, put this behind us and train hard to try and get to our top level and hopefully give our best in those games.”

Loftus-Cheek will be hoping to get more minutes under his belt when Chelsea travel to the south coast to face Bournemouth this weekend.

Eden Hazard and John Terry are pushing for recalls to the side while it is not yet known how long Oscar’s illness will keep him sidelined.
