Branislav Ivanovic hopes the familiar surroundings of Wembley will inspire Chelsea to Capital One Cup glory.

The Blues have triumphed at the rebuilt national stadium four times in the FA Cup and once in the Community Shield, but Sunday’s opponents Tottenham beat them in the 2008 League Cup final.

But the Serb believes their Wembley knowledge will stand them in good stead against their London rivals.

He said: “We are happy about that, but it’s always different against different opponents and games.

“It’s good to have a good feeling about the stadium – it’s very important.”

Chelsea endured a trophy-less season last year and the Blues, since Roman Abramovich bought the club, have not gone two years without spraying champagne. The defender is keen to avoid this happening.

Ivanovic added: “It’s a great record. It’s the power of this club. This is our squad and the amazing thing is, even with all the personnel changes, we kept on winning.

“We’re top of the league and we had a positive result in the Champions League.”

Nemanja Matic will miss the final after his red card against Burnley last weekend and Ivanovic is determined to win the competition for his banned team-mate.

Banned: Nemanja Matic

He said: “There are always things you can’t usually find that end up giving you special motivation for a final.

“All of us will have motivation [to win for Matic], we have a big enough squad. So whatever has happened we know we will be ready.”

Chelsea have faced finals without key players before, notably the 2012 Champions League final and 2013 Europa League final.

And Ivanovic, who was banned for the 2012 final, has every faith in the players filling the roles of Matic and the injured John Obi Mikel to perform to their highest level.

He said: “It says a lot about the squad and how we can cope with any situation.

“In a final, even if you have 10 injured or suspended players, it is what you live for. If the under-21 players have to be given a chance, I’m sure they will give their maximum.”
