Guus Hiddink has been lined up as Jose Mourinho’s placement as Chelsea manager until the end of the season.

The Special One was given his marching orders at Cobham this afternoon after an abysmal start to the campaign that has left the Blues one point above the relegation zone.

Monday night’s 2-1 defeat at Leicester City proved the final straw as Roman Abramovich decided to swing the axe after nine defeats in 16 Premier League games.

GetWestLondon understands the Russian has turned to old pal Hiddink to come in and steady the ship at Stamford Bridge.

The experienced Dutchman was parachuted in to take over from Luiz Felipe Scolari in February 2009 after the Blues owner pulled the trigger back then.

Hiddink led Chelsea to the semi-finals of the Champions League, where they lost to Barcelona, while steadying the ship in the Premier League.

His last game in charge was the FA Cup final, which saw Chelsea lift the trophy after a 2-1 win over Everton at Wembley.
