Antonio Conte says Chelsea ‘must be disappointed’ with their 1-1 draw at Burnley in the Premier League.
Taking into account Burnley’s excellent home record and Chelsea’s inability to create any clear-cut chances outside of the first ten minutes, the point they took from Turf Moor was a point gained.
But Conte insisted that his team’s title ambition means they ought to feel frustrated at not taking all three points.
“When you see they have 29 points at home you know Burnley are a tough team,” he said.
“Despite this we must be a bit disappointed because we started well. I saw great commitment from the team, but we must be a bit disappointed to take only one point.
“I am disappointed because our mentality is that we must always try to win, we tried to do this today but sometimes we must understand that there are tough games.
“This game was very tough, I am disappointed for the point, not the commitment and the fight and will to try to win the game.”
The home side’s direct approach made it an uncomfortable outing for Chelsea’s back three- that stood firm in the face of an aerial bombardment.
The Blues have been repeatedly confronted by teams looking to disrupt their pattern of play this season and Conte refused to denigrate Burnley’s tactics.
“Today we tried to play football and found a team who look to disrupt, with the long balls to fight for the second ball,” he said.
“The pitch is small and it is better for the team that defends and plays the long ball.
“You have less pitch to cover, there is a good atmosphere and I think it is right to have this type of atmosphere. For all of these reasons they have taken these points.
“I have great respect for Burnley and they are doing a great job.”
Chelsea extended their advantage at the top of the league to ten points but despite this healthy lead, Conte believes that six sides are still in contention for the prize.
“It is normal, there are 13 games before the end,” he said. “If someone thinks this league is finished, for me I can tell you no.
“There are six teams for me that can win the league. Anything can happen. We must continue to work in this way, to try to find a way to win in the same way that we tried today.
