Jose Mourinho insists Chelsea will travel to Man City on Monday to win – and not merely contain City's awesome goalscorers.

The league leaders are re-writing the records with their goalscoring exploits and the five bagged at Spurs in midweek made it an astonishing 115 for the season.

The Chelsea boss set up his team to frustrate Arsenal and Man United away from home earlier in the season and achieved 0-0 draws, but he thinks being too defensive would be counter-productive.

“I think City score goals, so we have to go looking for goals,” he said.

“Normally when your approach is very defensive, if you concede a goal you are in trouble and you have to make changes during the game and you never know how you adapt to it.

“We’re not going to change our philosophy. It’s not because of one game against a certain opponent. We’re going to try to win, knowing we can lose or draw. Our intention is to try to win.”

Talking about the quality of the opposition, Mourinho said that City are enjoying good luck at the moment to go along with their undoubted abilities.

“The players are very good, but even with very good players, if the manager is not good, you don’t do it,” he said. “The manager has to do good work. I think they have everything.

“I want to make it very clear that it’s a coincidence, but the reality is they have many crucial decisions in their favour.

“Against Liverpool, the Stirling goal [wrongly ruled offside]. The penalty on Suarez. Against Newcastle, the [disallowed] goal that is clear. Against Tottenham, the Dawson goal, the penalty, the red card.

“It’s just pure coincidence, but in their case they have everything in their favour. It’s just a coincidence. The team, players and manager are very good.”

Fernando Torres is still not ready, as he fights his way back to fitness after straining a knee ligament against Manchester United. But newcomer Mohamed Salah could be on the bench.

“Let’s see,” Mourinho said. “He had winter break, not playing for a long time. Training with the team, in the camp but after that stop he had to go for the visa. He was home two or three days. He trained today for the first time.”
