John Terry and Jose Mourinho lauded Thibaut Courtois' performance for Chelsea in the 1-1 draw Paris St Germain.

The Belgian, who came in for Petr Cech, made a string of fine saves and ensured the Blues did not have a mountain to climb after they spent most of the Champions League round of 16 first leg on the back foot.

And the Blues captain paid tribute to his in-form team-mate after the final whistle.

Tipping it over: Chelsea's Thibaut Courtois in action

"He was different class," Terry told ITV. "When you look at Petr in the week, he made two great saves from (Everton's Romelu) Lukaku to win us three points.

"Thibaut came back in today. The competition is great and it is fierce amongst the squad. That's what is needed. We are all playing a team game."

Good job: Chelsea's Thibaut Courtois applauds the fans at the end of the match

Mourinho echoed that praise of Courtois, admitting his side struggled to cope against the French champions, but was pleased by Chelsea's performance given the fitness concerns with his squad.

"When you see the performance of our goalkeeper, you have to say yes (we got away with it a little bit)," the Blues manager said. "Our goalkeeper made two or three important saves in the game.

"But sometimes people speak about the players, about their injuries and they don't play.

"But there were injured players that played and the injured players that didn't train to play.

Happy: Jose Mourinho at the end of the match

"I have in this team five players that didn't train. Five players since the game against Everton, that didn't train once.

"Yesterday they had like a warm-down for the press to see they were on the pitch, but we had five players who didn't train.

"We felt that a little, so I am happy with the result because two legs is now one leg with everything to be decided at Stamford Bridge."
