Chelsea defender Gary Cahill sat out of England training this morning as the Three Lions prepare to lock horns with Slovenia.

Cahill was joined in watching today’s session by Leighton Baines, Phil Jagielka, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Andros Townsend at St George’s Park.

The Blues ace has a hip problem but is confident he is in no danger of missing Saturday's Euro 2016 qualifier against Slovenia at Wembley and was rested as a precaution.

Danny Welbeck, Calum Chambers, Jack Wilshere, Ross Barkley and Saido Berahino were given a modified session due to their Premier League outings on Sunday.

Cahill was on the scoresheet for Chelsea at the weekend as he cancelled out Emre Can’s opener for Liverpool before Diego Costa wrapped up the points at Anfield.

Meanwhile, France coach Didier Deschamps has called up Blues centre-back Kurt Zouma as backup in defence for games against Albania and Sweden.

The 20-year-old, who has made just five appearances for Chelsea this season after joining from Saint-Etienne, was drafted in due to injuries to Loic Perrin and Eliaquim Mangala.

As hosts for Euro 2016 they qualify automatically, but they will play friendly matches against Albania and Sweden.

Striker Loic Remy has been placed on standby.
