Chelsea are waving goodbye to Marco Amelia and Alexandre Pato this week following the expiry of their deals - but which other Blues players need to start keeping an eye on the calendar as their contracts run down?

Friday July 1 represents the first day of the start of another year’s stay for many players as contracts tick over into another year while the likes of backup keeper Amelia are left looking for new clubs.

In the case of Pato, yesterday signalled the end of his loan stay in west London despite his agent continuing to insist an extension could yet be negotiated to see him remain in the Premier League.

John Terry could have been heading out of the door with Amelia this summer, however Chelsea changed their minds over the future of their beloved captain, leader, legend and decided to keep him on for another 12 months.

The Blues defender will be turning 36 in December and will have to prove to incoming manager Antonio Conte that he is worthy of yet another extension if he wants to continue playing into his 37th birthday.

Decision maker: Antonio Conte during a press conference

Chelsea’s club policy is only to offer one-year extensions to players over the age of 30 and this was highlighted by his signing of a new four-year deal last season, just 17 days before that barrier would have prevented him committing his future in the long term.

Serbian right-back Branislav Ivanovic, 32, followed Cahill in putting pen to paper a month later in January but his advancing years meant only a 12-month offer was placed on the table by the Blues.

We’ve combed through the paperwork weighing down the desks in the offices at Stamford Bridge to see which Chelsea players are running out of time in SW6 and who has been tied down for the long-haul.
