Chelsea's boss says John Terry has become a pivotal figure in the changing room - but the club deny there have been talks with the Blues legend about his future.

Reports suggest Terry's time is up as a player at Stamford Bridge after 18 years, but he will be offered a behind-the-scenes role for 2017-18.

Head of Communications, Steve Atkins interjected during Antonio Conte's press conference this afternoon to flat-bat any notion of a done deal.

But Conte says the injured defender is already easing himself into a coaching career.

"Now he's not playing but helping me in changing room to send the right message," Conte explianed.

"I hope to have him to play. (But) he's injured and every game he's coming with us.

"I think it's very positive, and John can do different roles."

Conte 'fesses up on terrific nine-game unbeaten record

The manager was asked whether he thought he would ever win eight on the spin.

"If I must be honest - no , not because of trust in my team," Conte said.

"I know this league and every game is tough. To have nine in a row is fantastic.

"I think the opinion changes very quickly. five months ago no-one believes we are favourites.

"But we have same players and same manager - our work is paying off."

Threat posed by Sunderland

"If we look at the last five games, they are fifth in the table and have taken nine points form fifth in the table.

"I think we are ready to face a lot of games in a few days, but we have to have continuity and the same mentality."
