The ongoing battle between Chelsea manger Jose Mourinho and Spain boss Vicente del Bosque intensified this week after Cesar Azpilicueta completed a full 90 minutes for his country.

Mourinho has made no secret of his dissatisfaction with del Bosque's use of his players before key games, notably the recent playing of Diego Costa, which resulted in his prolonged absence from the Blues first team.

Azpilicueta played the full 90 minutes of Spain's friendly against Germany in midweek ahead of Chelsea's Premier League match with West Brom on Saturday.

And he says Mourinho had no problem with his involvement in the game that had nothing at stake.

“Did Mourinho pressure me?” asked the fullback of suggestions the Chelsea boss was laying down the law to his players on international duty. “No.

“He knows that I am always thrilled to come play for Spain. When the squad is announced, I'm overjoyed. And when I am with Chelsea I give my all.”

But Mourinho has been a frequent critic this season of del Bosque's use of his players, and the inclusion of Azpilicueta for a full 90 minutes will see questions being asked.

The Spaniard has been one of the first names on Mourinho's teamsheet when available this season.

Following the Blues game with West Brom, there is a Champions League trip to Schalke – managed by ex-boss Roberto Di Matteo – on Tuesday.
