Jose Mourinho has denied that he will ever be forced to make a player signing for Chelsea based on commercial interests.

The Blues have been linked with a £4m summer bid for Japanese striker Yoshinori Muto at a time when a lucrative new sponsorship deal with Yokohama Rubber has been announced, and a tour of Japan is being discussed.

But while the likes of Real Madrid are open to signing players for their commercial value as much, if not more, than their worth on the pitch, Mourinho insists that is not the Chelsea way.

He said: “I don't think about players, I don't think about next season. I don't think about after QPR (who Chelsea play on Sunday).

“That's modern football (players' commercial worth). That is something the modern manager has to deal with, you can never completely close the door on a bit of commercial interest.

Bad blood: John Terry and Anton Ferdinand in THAT game in 2011

“But a football club is a football club, and a top club only has space for very good players. We will never bring in a player if they don't have the capacity to be in the Chelsea squad.

“We don't get players in who we don't think are either a good player or a good prospect.”

Mourinho, meanwhile, is not expecting any added tension from Sunday's west London derby at Loftus Road , despite it being the scene of John Terry's racial abusing of Anton Ferdinand three and a half years ago.

He added: “That's what people tell me (Loftus Road can have a volatile atmosphere). I never played there. We go to play, we got to win. People in the stands can play a role but they can't score goals.

“I think it's just another match, but one which will be important for both teams. We will just focus on the game, but nobody is expecting an easy match.”
