JOSE Mourinho is a huge success as a manager because he hates losing as much as the players do.

Frank Lampard says that the returning Blues boss (pic) has already imprinted his winning obsession into the very heart of Chelsea.

Friday night saw Mourinho's side fight to the very last with 10 men but lose on penalties to Champions League holders Bayern Munich.

The Portuguese coach then shelved his adopted 'Happy one' image, to question the referee's dismissal of Ramires – and hint at some sort of UEFA agenda.

Asked if this was evidence Mourinho hated losing, and what impact that attitude had on his players, Lampard said: “I love that!

“You want a manager who hates losing, because I think he appreciates players who hate losing. We're all in the same boat there.

“And the one thing about Jose Mourinho is that you know the identity of his team wherever he goes: they hate losing, they want to win, they want to play good football and win.

“I think he very quickly imprints that on his teams, and I think he is doing that with us. If we can work on what we've seen (against Bayern), and get even better, then we can have a good season.”

Lampard said Mourinho's methods have brought an instant focus to a side which many suggested had lost it's way during a quick succession of three managers in the 18 months before he arrived.

“The training is very on-it,” said the midfield maestro. “I've worked with him before, and the training is fantastic: he works tactically on the team, that is very enjoyable.

“Tactics can be boring sometimes, but he manages to make them enjoyable and very match-orientated.

“And he's very good with his players. He's the same manager we had here before, but with more experience. He's a pleasure to work with for the players.”

Earlier in the week, Branislav Ivanovic highlighted the extra work Mourinho makes players do is the real difference between him and other coaches.

Lampard agreed: “Yes, I believe so. I find that personally, anyway.

“He pushes you with his ways, his leadership, with the training, and what he gives with these talks in the dressing room.

“I understand what Brana is saying there. I think you'll find a lot of players who speak about the manager speak very highly of him in that regard. So it's not just me, and our players.”
