Chelsea won their eighth game in succession at Manchester City last Saturday - but Antonio Conte has brandished the possibility of notching 100 points this year as 'impossible.'

The Italian gained more than a ton in a 38-game season when in charge of Juventus back in 2014, but he believes doing it in the Premier League week is a different animal alltogether.

He said: “It is impossible.

"In this season and for sure in the future it will be very very tough to get 100 points, and every single game is very tough and to have won eight games in a row is fantastic because this league you have to fight in every game.”

Chelsea hold the record for most points in a single season with 95 when they won the league under Jose Mourinho in 2004/05 losing just one game on their way to their first title for half a century.

Conte has hailed that achievement, but claims the top flight can still be won with a lesser points total.

“I think this number, 95, is a fantastic number and you can see in the past that you can win with 85, 87 points. But to get 90, 95 is very difficult but for us is important to play game by game and look to take three points.”

Blues are averaging just shy of two and a half points per game, so far this term and a projected figure would be shy of the 2005 figure.

Nevertheless, Conte has emphasised his focus and emulate the achievement of Mourinho and Carlo Ancelotti by becoming the third Chelsea boss to win the Premier League at the first attempt.
