Cesar Azpilicueta has warned Chelsea new boy Baba Rahman that he won't be giving up his spot in the team without a fight.

Chelsea look set for a shake-up in their full back positions, with Jose Mourinho already having made it clear that Rahman may be parachuted into the position mostly occupied by Azpilicueta, while he then moves across to replace the out-of-form Branislav Ivanovic at right back.

But, were the Serb to recapture his form, it would leave the Spaniard vulnerable to a spot on the bench; but that is something he is not contemplating.

Azpilicueta said of the signings of Rahman, and forward Pedro: “They are both really good additions to the squad. They will help us be a better team. It will help everybody. We will have more competition and that can only benefit the club.

“We know in football you can't rely on what you did in the past, you have to prove yourself every day. We won the League last season, but we have to show in every game and every day in training that we are ready to perform in every game.

“I'm confident that I will keep working and doing my job. I know that the competition is good for the team.

“There are a lot of great players around me and young players too. They're all going to compete for a place. At the end, hopefully the whole team will be better and I hope to improve.”

Asked if a shift to right back, his natural position, would be an issue, Azpilicueta said: “I have played more games on the left for Chelsea, but I'm always ready to play where the manager wants, even in goal. I will let the manager decide.”
