Chelsea record breaker Petr Cech says he has plenty more football left in him, despite some claiming it may be time for a new Blues number one.

The goalkeeper etched his name in the Stamford Bridge record books on Saturday, with his 209th career clean sheet at Hull City.

The achievement eclipsed the 35-year-old club record of 208, held by Blues legend Peter Bonetti.

Cech, who will turn 32 before the season is out, has seen his previously unimpeachable status as Chelsea's number one questioned this season – due to the plaudits heaped on on-loan keeper Thibaut Courtois.

Courtois, 21, is thought to be at a key point in his development, having spent the last two and a half seasons on loan at Atletico Madrid.

But Cech is insistent he intends to keep plenty more clean sheets for Chelsea.

“Well, let's see,” he said, when asked if his record would stand for a long time.

“I'm still young. I can keep playing. I hope I will keep playing, so I can add some more clean sheets I hope – and we will see where the final number will stop.

“But, at the moment the most important thing was to get three points. I was thinking second half (at Hull): yeah, great, we still have a clean sheet.

“But I would rather take three points than a clean sheet. And, in the end we have both, so it was the ideal end of the game.”
