Lee Carsley will push his Brentford squad during the international break as he looks to establish his best XI.

The Bees head coach believes his charges are lacking confidence in themselves and is keen to see an improvement before the game against Rotherham.

The 41-year-old feels some of his squad are not playing at the level they can and is keen to build them up to that requirement through hard work.

He said: “We'll push them at the near end of the break. The plans were in place before I got involved so the schedule is already in place. It's just making sure that we get what we need to get into them.

“I don't know what my best XI is. You look in the treatment room and there are three of your best XI in there. I want to focus on the players available to me. We've got good players here but they aren't fulfilling their potential.

“It's got to come through the training, the repetition, the hard work. There's no secret to getting your confidence back and that comes in the training.”

Carsley's first port of call, though, is to decide what he can do better for the team before looking at what his squad can do.

He added: “I'll watch the game and assess what I could have done better and what mistakes I made. I think I did make mistakes against Derby.

“I think I could have changed the system and given them a safer pass. I want to make sure that the first port of call is me. I'd rather say it was my fault and I need to be better.”
