Brentford showed the best and worst of their play in the 5-3 triumph over Burton Albion as they came from 3-1 down at half time.

The Bees, who had led through Sergi Canos, found themselves trailing thanks to two goals that were a carbon copy of each other.

Twice, Lasse Vigen Christensen's corner was flicked on by Cauley Woodrow at the front post and Marvin Sordell was on hand to turn the ball home.

Woodrow made it 3-1 with a free kick five minutes before the break and it looked as if the Bees would be making the return trip to London with nothing to show for it.

However, they rallied after half time with Lasse Vibe and Sergi Canos both finding the net in the space of five minutes to make it 3-3.

Vibe scored again when he turned home Florian Jozefzoon's cross and the Dane turned provider when he teed up Jota to score just a minute later.

Below are the key talking points to emerge from the win that takes the Bees to 50 points.

Dean Smith's half time team talk works a treat

Dean Smith

There was an outcry on social media at half time with a number of fans calling for Dean Smith to be sacked.

However, he turned things around, in part, by warning them of the consequences of a poor second 45.

“There was a threat at half time that we'd have them in all weekend next weekend so they'll do anything to have a weekend off,” Smith said.

“The coaching staff had a chat outside the dressing room and looked at the goals – there were clear heads from myself, Richard (O'Kelly), Thomas (Frank) and Roycey.

“We didn't think we'd played that badly. We had to remind ourselves they scored three set pieces. It was a sloppy free kick on the edge of the box from Romaine and Dan will be disappointed he got beat on his side from the free kick.

“It was the way we marked from the throw ins that led to the corner. They felt the sharp side of my tongue about the goals we conceded.

“The easiest thing to do would have been to change the team but I still felt we were in control of the football and I felt we had to be more patient and have a bit more pace.”

It did the job and Brentford were superb after the break and fully deserved, on the balance of 90 minutes, to claim the victory.

Funnily enough, those calling for Smith to leave were, by and large, silent. Smith deserved credit for the turnaround – it'd be nice to see a few supporters give him credit where it's due.

Super Sergi

Brace: Sergi Canos

Sergi Canos loves Brentford and Brentford loves him. The Spaniard has been desperate to open his account for the west Londoners since returning in January and he did so with aplomb.

The former Liverpool forward then grabbed the equaliser and celebrated by jumping in with the Brentford supporters.

He may not always have the best games but Bees fans can never question his commitment to the cause.

It's great to see a player with so much passion for the club putting his all in and getting his rewards.

Why do Brentford concede goals in clusters?

Harlee Dean rises highest

When teams score once against Brentford, they often add another soon after. In recent games, Brighton, Preston, Reading, Wolves and now Burton have all scored twice in a short space of time.

It's becoming a worrying problem for the Bees and one Dean Smith needs to resolve sooner rather than later.

The Bees have one of the youngest squads in the division and the lack of experience may be a factor in why this happens.

They need to add steel to their game so that when they are on the backfoot, they do not get overrun by the opposition.

Worst goal conceded all season

Assists: Cauley Woodrow

Marvin Sordell's brace was avoidable but his second was the worst goal the Bees have conceded all season.

After he scored his first when he was unmarked at the back post to Cauley Woodrow's flick on from Lasse Vigen Christensen's corner, you could put it down to a freak incident.

However, for him to score minutes later in exactly the same way was worrying as it was clear that Brentford had not learnt from their first mistake.

To adapt Oscar Wilde's quote, to concede once is misfortune, to concede twice in the same way is carelessness.

50 points but more is still needed

Pure joy: Romaine Sawyers

Brentford are virtually guaranteed a fourth straight season in the Championship after reaching the 50-point marker.

There are still eight games left this season and the Bees must look to try and gain five more wins to finish with more points than they did last year.

Even if they don't achieve that, fans want to see the west Londoners finish above QPR at the very least and, if Fulham have a late collapse, Slavisa Jokanovic's side.
