BRYAN Ruiz scored one set up another as Fulham secured a much-needed three points against rock-bottom Bolton.

The Costa Rican crossed for Clint Dempsey to open the scoring on 32 minutes before adding a superb second a minute later to haul Martin Jol's men clear of the drop zone.

Fulham were dealt a blow before kick-off after Bobby Zamora was ruled out with a knee injury as Jol made seven changes from the side which drew with Odense in midweek.

The Whites attacked from the off, with Andy Johnson, Danny Murphy and John Arne Riise all going close.

And the hosts grabbed the game by the scruff of the neck with two goals in as many minutes just after the half-hour mark.

Ruiz sent in a teasing cross from the left, and Dempsey outjumped his marker to head the ball into the bottom corner.

They added a deserved second a minute later, Dempsey this time the provider for Ruiz to exquisitely lift the ball over Jussi Jaaskelainen into the empty net.

Bolton made a better fist of it after the break, with Chris Eagles firing inches wide, while at the other end, Dempsey hit the side netting and Johnson and Dembele saw shots blocked.

David Stockdale saved well from Fabrice Muamba as the visitors looked to find a way back into the game, but Jol's men held on for a deserved victory at Craven Cottage.
